Police in Boduppal, Telangana, have registered a case after a 42-year-old woman said she was harassed over a loan taken by a relative and threatened with morphed nude photographs of her minor daughter. The woman, a resident of Rajalingam Colony, told police she began receiving repeated calls from people claiming to represent the Vardhan loan app after the alleged borrower failed to repay the debt.
According to her complaint, the calls came on 30 and 31 August from multiple international numbers. The callers allegedly insisted that she clear the loan despite her explanation that the borrowing was not hers, and they continued to abuse her over the phone. The situation escalated when, she said, the callers sent altered images of her daughter, a Class 10 pupil, through WhatsApp and warned that the photographs would be circulated unless payment was made.
The woman later received another call from a different number but did not answer, fearing further intimidation, and then approached Medipally police to seek action. Officers have booked the case under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, while investigators try to identify the people behind the calls and the images. Cases involving loan app harassment have drawn growing attention in India, where police have repeatedly warned about aggressive recovery tactics and digital abuse linked to instant lending platforms.
