Telangana police dismantle Delhi-based fraud call centre targeting loan victims with Telugu-speaking telecallers

Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has cracked a call centre network operating from Delhi, arresting 22 individuals including women telecallers, in a scam linked to over 22 complaints involving false loan offers and extortion tactics.

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has broken up a Delhi-based call centre network accused of luring people in Telangana with false loan offers, arresting 21 Telugu-speaking women telecallers and a bank account holder in a case investigators say is linked to 22 cybercrime complaints across the state. According to Telangana Today, the operation had been running from three call centres in Shiva Market, Delhi, for nearly 18 months before police moved in.

Police said the alleged organisers, identified as Lalith Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Anil, are on the run and are believed to be from Bihar. The women arrested, aged 20 to 42, were reportedly chosen because they could speak Telugu fluently, allowing them to sound credible to potential victims. Several were said to be originally from Telangana and later settled in Delhi.

Investigators said the callers posed as representatives of Bajaj Finance and promised quick loan approvals to unsuspecting victims. Once contact was made, the scripted pitch allegedly shifted to demands for fees described as processing, verification, documentation and insurance costs. In some cases, police said, victims who asked for money back or challenged the transfers were threatened with legal trouble, damage to their reputation or misuse of their identity documents.

The bureau seized 23 mobile phones and two bank passbooks during the raids.
