Punjab National Bank’s renewed 444-day fixed deposit scheme stands out among public-sector banks with its attractive rates and flexible access options, appealing especially to senior citizens and risk-averse savers seeking short-term investments.
Punjab National Bank has put a 444-day fixed deposit back in the spotlight, with reports in February and June saying the lender’s special tenure offers 6.60% for regular customers, 7.10% for senior citizens and 7.40% for super senior citizens on deposits below ₹3 crore. Economic Times reported that the revised pricing took effect on February 24, 2026, while later coverage in June said the same rate structure was still in place.
That makes the scheme one of the strongest short-duration options currently available among large public-sector banks. Compared with State Bank of India’s 444-day product, and similar offers from Bank of Baroda and Indian Bank, PNB’s top rate stands out, especially for older savers who receive a larger premium over the standard tariff.
The appeal is not only the headline rate. The deposit is compounded quarterly, which means interest is added to the principal every three months and then earns further interest. One market guide said that can lift the effective return above the published annual rate, particularly over a tenure as specific as 444 days.
For investors who may need access to their money before maturity, PNB also offers more than one route. Industry summaries say callable deposits allow premature withdrawal, though a penalty of 1% is typically applied, while non-callable variants can deliver a higher return for those willing to lock funds away. PNB also allows opening the account through its mobile app or in a branch, making the product accessible to digital-first customers and traditional depositors alike.
For retirees and other fixed-income investors, the attraction is straightforward: a relatively short lock-in, a government-owned lender and a higher payout than many rival schemes. For savers looking to keep risk low without committing money for years, PNB’s 444-day deposit has become a leading candidate.
