Navi Mutual Fund uses humour to demystify index investing for younger Indian investors

Navi Mutual Fund launches a playful awareness drive featuring comedy and social scenarios to make passive investing more approachable amid India’s rising popularity of low-cost benchmark funds.

Navi Mutual Fund has stepped up its push into index investing with a new awareness campaign that uses comedy and ordinary social situations to make a technical subject feel more familiar to younger investors. The effort arrives as passive investing continues to gain ground in India, where low-cost funds tracking market benchmarks are becoming a bigger part of mainstream money conversations.

The campaign centres on two short digital films, “The Akhada Film” and “The Date Film”. In one, a wrestler speaking with his guru swaps traditional ambition for index fund language. In the other, a first date turns comic when the young man starts talking about investing in benchmark funds rather than hobbies. According to the company, the aim is to make wealth-building feel less intimidating and more conversational.

Aditya Mulki, chief executive of Navi AMC, said the idea was to make investing sound natural and approachable while encouraging curiosity about long-term wealth creation. Vishal Dayama, founder of Braindad, said the creative team deliberately leaned on humour and characters who are oddly enthusiastic about index funds rather than using a conventional explainer-style ad.

The campaign also fits Navi’s broader product strategy. Mint reported in 2023 that the fund house launched the Navi S&P BSE Sensex Index Fund, an open-ended scheme designed to mirror the Sensex. Navi, founded by Sachin Bansal and later renamed from Essel Finance Mutual Fund in April 2021, has focused on low-cost index and exchange-traded products, including funds linked to the Nifty 50, the Nifty Bank index and US equities. ETMoney said that, as of March 31, 2026, the firm managed ₹9,007 crore in assets across 18 schemes.
