Indonesia emphasises importance of home protection amid rising property risks and housing programme

As Indonesia advances its 3 million houses programme, Asuransi Jasindo urges families to integrate home protection into financial planning amid increasing weather extremes and property risks, with upcoming housing expo aiming to boost mortgage accessibility.

As Indonesia pushes ahead with its 3 Million Houses Programme, Asuransi Jasindo is urging households to treat home protection as part of family financial planning rather than an optional extra. The state-owned insurer says rising housing development, together with more frequent extreme weather, makes it more important for buyers to think about what happens after the keys are handed over.

Brellian Gema Widayana, the company’s corporate secretary, said in a statement on Saturday that a home is more than bricks and mortar because it also holds family hopes and years of hard work. Jasindo argues that ownership should include steps to limit losses from fire, flood and other property risks, not just the purchase or construction of the dwelling itself.

The message comes as industry figures suggest property risk is still climbing. Data from the Indonesian General Insurance Association show property insurance premiums reached IDR 8.31tn in the first quarter of 2026, up 6.5% from a year earlier, while claims rose 34.7% over the same period. That gap points to a market in which more households and businesses are exposed to damage, even as demand for cover increases.

Jasindo plans to use the Danantara Housing Expo 2026 to widen that conversation. Danantara Indonesia is set to stage the expo from August 27 to 30 at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition in Jakarta, with more than 200,000 housing units on display from state-owned and private developers. Other reports say the event will also bundle housing offers with financing designed to make purchases more accessible, including low down payments and longer repayment terms, as part of the wider effort to expand affordable home ownership.
