India's imminent LPG e-KYC deadline sparks urgency among consumers

With the August 16 deadline approaching, Indian LPG consumers are being urged to complete biometric verification via Aadhaar to avoid subsidy disruptions, as authorities clarify that refill supply will continue for pending users.

Domestic LPG customers across India are being urged to complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC by August 16, with distributors for Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas sending repeated alerts as the deadline approaches. The requirement applies to consumers who have not yet finished biometric verification, and the aim is to keep subsidy records aligned with verified household connections, according to reports from several Indian outlets.

The potential consequences have been described in different ways. The Times of India said consumers who miss the deadline may face trouble accessing subsidised cylinders, while subsidy payments could also be disrupted until verification is completed. MediaNama, however, reported that refill supply itself will not be stopped, and that the process is meant to ensure pending users complete authentication rather than to force every household back through the system.

For those who have not yet done it, the check can be completed at home through the relevant oil company’s mobile app, together with the Aadhaar FaceRD app, using face authentication to confirm identity. The government has also allowed verification through LPG distributors and gas agencies, and in some cases delivery staff can help with the process, according to reports from India’s business and consumer news sites.

Officials have also stressed that e-KYC is only one part of the subsidy process. The Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana’s guidance says consumers should also make sure their Aadhaar is linked to the correct bank account and properly seeded in the NPCI mapper if subsidy payments are not arriving. The clearest message from the reporting is that consumers who have not completed verification should act now, rather than wait for the deadline to pass.
