Indian retail investors confront platform shortcomings amid quest for broader market access

Frustrations over reliability and limited US stock coverage on Groww and INDMoney push experienced Indian investors towards established international brokers, highlighting a gap in market depth and trading features.

Some Indian retail investors using Groww and INDMoney have been voicing frustration over reliability, stock coverage and execution quality, with some saying the shortcomings have pushed them towards more established overseas brokers. In a discussion on TradingQnA, one investor said Groww had recurring bugs, missing stocks and occasional profit-and-loss errors, while INDMoney was criticised for the absence of limit orders, slowdowns during busy periods and an incomplete list of US equities.

Moneycontrol has also reported similar complaints from users of both platforms. In Groww’s case, customers have raised concerns about app crashes, limited availability of certain shares and inconsistencies in profit-and-loss calculations. INDMoney users, meanwhile, have pointed to app freezes during periods of heavy traffic, slow transaction processing and gaps in US stock coverage.

For investors building larger portfolios, the issue is not only convenience but also depth of access and trading features. Moneycontrol noted that more experienced users often look to platforms such as Interactive Brokers and Charles Schwab, which are seen as better suited to investors who want broader market access, more advanced order types and systems that have been tested at scale.

The discussion also highlighted the practicalities of moving between brokers. According to the investor on TradingQnA and Moneycontrol’s reporting, portfolio transfers are possible without selling holdings, provided the receiving broker supports them. The process may involve fees, however: Moneycontrol said some platforms charge for incoming or ACATS transfers, with costs varying by broker and the type of transfer.
