Vodafone Idea prepares for Q1 results amid mixed recovery signals and 5G expansion plans

Vodafone Idea is set to announce its June-quarter financial results amid cautious optimism, with increased revenue and ARPU but ongoing losses, alongside plans for extensive 4G and 5G network expansion across India.

Vodafone Idea will report its June-quarter results on August 10, with investors watching whether the telecom operator can extend the modest recovery seen in revenue, operating profit and customer metrics. The company has set a board meeting for that day to approve unaudited first-quarter numbers for FY27 and will follow with an analyst call later in the afternoon, according to an exchange filing.

Brokerage estimates cited by Zee Business point to revenue of ₹11,355 crore for the quarter ended June 30, slightly above the previous quarter’s ₹11,332 crore. EBITDA, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, is seen rising to ₹4,969 crore from ₹4,889 crore, with the margin inching up to 43.8% from 43.1%.

The bottom line is expected to remain deeply in the red, though comparisons are complicated by a one-off gain booked in the prior quarter from government relief on adjusted gross revenue dues. Analysts expect a net loss of ₹5,687 crore for the June quarter, versus a reported profit of ₹51,970 crore in the March quarter that was inflated by that accounting item. Excluding the gain, the March-quarter loss was ₹5,521 crore.

Average revenue per user, a key telecom measure of how much each customer contributes, is forecast to rise to ₹176 from ₹174, helped by a longer billing period and a continuing shift from 2G handsets to 4G services. Analysts also expect subscriber additions, a sign that the operator’s network push is starting to hold customers, although churn remains a central risk.

That network story will be as important as the quarterly figures themselves. In recent commentary, Vodafone Idea has said it plans to expand 4G coverage further and widen its 5G presence, while also seeking new funding to support capital expenditure. Arthneeti said the company is targeting 60,000 to 70,000 additional 4G sites over the next 12 to 18 months and is betting on premium plans and higher smartphone adoption to lift data use and ARPU.

The backdrop is a company still rebuilding after a difficult run, but with signs of gradual improvement. In the previous quarter, according to company disclosures and market reports, Vodafone Idea reported revenue of ₹11,332 crore and EBITDA of ₹4,889 crore, while its 4G and 5G subscriber base stood at 128.9 million. For the full FY26, it reported revenue of ₹44,873 crore, EBITDA of ₹19,003 crore and capital expenditure of ₹8,742 crore, as it pushed 5G into 83 cities and expanded 4G coverage to more than 86% of India’s population.
