Sutlej Textiles swings back to profit on renewed cost control and easing raw material costs

Sutlej Textiles and Industries reports a Rs 1 crore net profit for the June quarter, marking a significant recovery from losses amid ongoing raw material price volatility and market pressures.

Sutlej Textiles and Industries has returned to profit in the quarter ended June 30, reporting a consolidated net profit of Rs 1 crore after a loss of Rs 30.10 crore a year earlier, according to the company’s latest results. The turnaround also marks an improvement from the Rs 18.18 crore loss recorded in the March quarter, suggesting that the textile maker’s recovery gathered pace at the start of the new financial year.

The improvement follows a difficult FY26, when Sutlej Textiles reported a cumulative consolidated net loss of Rs 86.31 crore. Business Standard reported that the company’s June 2025 quarter was hit by disruptions at its Kathua manufacturing plant in Jammu and Kashmir, which weighed on sales, margins and profit before tax. The company later said operations at the plant had resumed full scale by July 2025, helping to stabilise production.

Sutlej Textiles said the latest quarter benefited from tighter cost controls and a better operating backdrop, including softer raw material and logistics expenses. The company’s December 2025 quarter had already shown signs of recovery, with losses narrowing and operating margin improving, while revenue also strengthened from the weak June 2025 period.

Even so, the business remains under pressure from volatile raw cotton prices, elevated debt and uncertain demand in export markets such as the US and Europe. Sutlej Textiles also held its 21st annual general meeting on July 27, 2026, when shareholders approved the audited accounts for the year ended March 31, 2026. Separately, Jitender Kumar, vice president for raw materials, resigned effective July 17, 2026.
