Indian shares fell in early trading on Monday, pressured by surging crude oil prices and lingering geopolitical uncertainties, with the Sensex and Nifty experiencing noticeable declines.
Indian shares slipped in early trade on Monday as a jump in crude oil prices weighed on market sentiment, with traders keeping a close watch on geopolitical risks. According to Moneycontrol, the BSE Sensex fell 19.38 points to 78,479.79 at the open, while the NSE Nifty declined 5.10 points to 24,567.45.
Selling pressure later deepened. The Sensex was down 158.62 points at 78,340.55, while the Nifty eased 45.20 points to 24,524.95. Among the day’s early laggards were Eternal, State Bank of India, InterGlobe Aviation, Power Grid, NTPC and Bharti Airtel, while Titan, Infosys, Tech Mahindra and HCL Tech were among the gainers. Moneycontrol also reported that Brent crude was trading 1.03% higher at $84.41 a barrel, even as foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 480.24 crore on Friday and Asian markets were firmer.
