Hindalco's quarterly profits surge on strong aluminium and copper demand amid capital expenditure plans

Hindalco Industries reports a 30% profit rise in Q1, highlighting robust aluminium and copper performance, while investors scrutinise its expansion plans and demand outlook amid volatile markets.

Hindalco Industries is among the key stocks in focus on Friday as the metals major meets the market after scheduling its board meeting to review first-quarter numbers for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, with an earnings call set for 4 pm IST. The company has also flagged its broader capital expenditure plans, underlining that investors will be listening closely for commentary on growth spending and demand trends. According to Hindalco’s filings, the update comes as the group continues to lean on its integrated aluminium and copper businesses.

The latest reported quarter gives the stock a strong backdrop. Hindalco said consolidated net profit rose 30% year on year to ₹4,004 crore, while revenue from operations increased 13% to ₹64,232 crore. The aluminium upstream business delivered an EBITDA margin of 44%, described by the company as industry-leading, while the downstream arm posted record quarterly EBITDA of ₹229 crore, up 108% from a year earlier. Novelis also logged 1% shipment growth, helped by stronger beverage can volumes and cost-cutting efforts, according to the company’s results release and follow-up reporting by Business Standard and Mint.

For investors, the focus now is whether that momentum can be sustained in a more volatile commodity environment. Hindalco’s copper business remained broadly in line with guidance despite weaker treatment and refining charges, while the company has pointed to operational efficiency, cost control and an improved product mix as key drivers of profit growth. Reuters-style market watchers will also be looking for any update on the pace of capital deployment, as the company has outlined a ₹6,000 crore investment roadmap and continues to position itself as a leveraged play on industrial demand and aluminium pricing.
