Gold and silver in India stabilise near record highs amid global rally and cautious outlook

Gold and silver prices in India remain steady on Sunday, with both metals close to their record highs following a week of sharp gains driven by global rally and geopolitical factors. Market watchers advise caution as traders await the week’s opening on the MCX, emphasising careful checks before purchasing.

Gold and silver prices in India were steady on Sunday, August 9, 2026, with trading halted for the weekend and no fresh move from Saturday’s close. According to the startup talky report, 24K gold held at ₹1,52,150 per 10 grams and silver at ₹2,32,640 per kilogram, leaving both metals close to record territory after a strong run this week.

The gains have been abrupt. The same report said gold is up 6.08% over the past week, while silver has risen 6.64%, a pace that has kept both metals well above their monthly and yearly reference points. In city-by-city retail rates, prices were unchanged across major markets including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru, though jewellers may still add making charges, GST and local premiums.

Market watchers have been tracking a broader rally in global bullion. Reuters-style coverage from LiveMint earlier in July showed MCX gold opening higher at ₹1,40,949 per 10 grams on July 14 after global bullion strength, while silver also advanced, helped by bargain buying and expectations around US inflation data. A separate LiveMint report on July 8 said gold and silver had opened lower in India as global prices softened and the dollar strengthened, underlining how quickly sentiment has swung through the summer.

The latest firmness has come as overseas prices have also pushed higher. The startup talky report said Comex gold rose 2.37% in the latest session and Comex silver gained 3.56%, with safe-haven buying, a weaker dollar and expectations of further Federal Reserve rate cuts supporting the move. That sits alongside broader second-half volatility flagged by NationPress, which said duty changes and tax shifts have already distorted domestic pricing this year and weighed on jewellery demand.

For retail buyers, the immediate message is caution rather than urgency. With Indian markets closed on Sunday and MCX set to reopen on Monday, traders will be watching to see whether the rally extends or cools at the start of the week. The report advises shoppers to check purity certification and making charges carefully before buying.
