ESDS Software accelerates Indian AI infrastructure expansion with new data centres and sovereign cloud ambitions

ESDS Software Solution is ramping up its AI infrastructure investments across India, expanding data centres and launching sovereign cloud services amid rising demand for localised compute capacity and plans for an IPO to fund further growth.

ESDS Software Solution is leaning hard into a new wave of artificial intelligence infrastructure, as chairman and managing director Piyush Somani said the demand cycle in India is only beginning. In an interview with Business Today TV, Somani described the current surge as a broad shift towards AI factories and compute-heavy facilities, arguing that this part of the market will become larger than other forms of infrastructure investment.

The company is already pushing ahead with capacity additions. Somani said ESDS is adding three more floors at its existing Bengaluru site and converting them into data centre space for AI infrastructure, while also expanding in Mumbai and Nashik. He added that a large 20 MW AI factory is being developed in Sahibabad and that a facility in Kolkata is also due to begin operations.

That expansion fits with ESDS’s wider strategy. According to company statements and industry reporting, the software and cloud services group has been building out its footprint across Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, with operating data centres in Nashik, Navi Mumbai, Bengaluru, Mohali and Noida. The company has also set out plans for new sites in Kolkata and Sahibabad, reflecting growing demand for distributed, locally hosted compute capacity.

ESDS is also trying to position itself as a player in sovereign AI cloud services. Industry reports say the company has launched Swaraj Cloud, designed to keep data fully within India, and is pursuing an initial public offering to support infrastructure spending. The proposed fundraising is expected to help finance more data centre capacity and the purchase of cloud equipment, as ESDS targets customers in regulated sectors such as banking, healthcare and government.
