KB Kookmin Bank launches multilingual AI assistant to simplify banking and boost security

KB Kookmin Bank introduces ‘KB AI’ within its KB Star Banking app, combining natural-language understanding with multilingual support to enhance user experience and security in digital banking services.

KB Kookmin Bank has rolled out a generative AI service inside its KB Star Banking app, bringing together search, account enquiries and transfers in a single conversational interface. The bank said the new “KB AI” tool is designed to understand the meaning and context of a customer’s request, allowing users to type ordinary phrases rather than exact menu names or banking terms.

That means a customer can ask the app to show last month’s debit card spending or send money to a child without having to navigate through multiple screens. According to the bank’s announcement, the AI analyses natural-language requests and matches them to the relevant banking function, whether that is finding a product, checking frequently asked questions or carrying out a transaction.

KB Kookmin Bank has also expanded multilingual support for foreign customers. The service now supports 16 languages, up from 11, and is linked with recent upgrades that allow foreign users to open accounts and complete identity verification more easily within the app. The bank said the aim is to make basic banking services more accessible to customers who may not be familiar with Korean.

Security remains a central part of the rollout. The bank said the AI runs in an internal environment separated from outside systems and that all data transfers are encrypted. That approach is intended to give the new service the same security standard as conventional digital banking, even as the bank moves towards more advanced AI-led services across its platform. Separately, industry reports have indicated that KB Kookmin Bank has been broadening its AI ambitions through partnerships and internal development centres as it seeks to move beyond chatbots towards tools that can support real financial operations.
