India’s National Highways Authority has introduced OneTag, a new service allowing FASTag users to switch issuer banks seamlessly via the Rajmargyatra app, enhancing convenience and operational efficiency at toll plazas.
India’s National Highways Authority has launched OneTag, a portability service for FASTag users that lets motorists switch issuer banks without removing the sticker from their windscreen. The service, unveiled by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, is available through the Rajmargyatra mobile app and is designed to make the system more flexible for vehicle owners. According to the Press Information Bureau, the move also aims to cut the operational burden of reissuing physical tags.
Under the new arrangement, the physical FASTag stays in place while the user moves to a different issuer bank. The process begins in the Rajmargyatra app, where the user enters the vehicle registration number and checks eligibility for portability. The current issuer then sends a six-digit mobile verification code, after which the customer can choose a new bank and complete the verification and wallet onboarding steps, the government said.
The old wallet does not transfer automatically. The existing issuer remains responsible for closing the earlier account, settling pending transactions and processing any refund after adjustments, according to the official announcement. Once the switch is complete, the new issuer takes over FASTag services, while the tag ID linked to the vehicle registration number remains unchanged. A six-month cooling period applies before the tag can be ported again.
The launch adds to a growing set of services on the Rajmargyatra app, which already includes FASTag Annual Pass, FASTag Local Pass and the emergency helpline 1033. NHAI has also expanded the online Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas. With more than 13 crore FASTags issued and penetration above 98%, according to government figures cited in the reporting, the new portability feature is being positioned as a way to widen choice while keeping toll collection on the existing NETC network.
