Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s two-day Delhi-NCR drive has secured proposals worth ₹66,392 crore and the promise of over 54,000 jobs, illustrating the state’s strategic move to establish itself as a manufacturing hub through the Purvodaya initiative.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s two-day investment drive in Delhi-NCR has yielded proposals worth ₹66,392 crore and the prospect of 54,135 jobs, the state government said on Saturday, underscoring its push to position the state as a manufacturing hub under its “Purvodaya” plan. The outreach included meetings with business leaders, sector-specific roundtables and a visit to Haier’s factory in Noida, where Majhi reviewed production processes and looked at opportunities in electronics, consumer durables and allied supply chains.
Majhi said the government was working to build an industrial ecosystem that would do more than attract capital. “Odisha is building an ecosystem where industries can grow, create jobs and build long-term value. Our focus is not only on attracting investment, but also on creating employment, strengthening local supply chains and opening new opportunities for the youth of Odisha,” he said.
The state said the Delhi-NCR campaign generated 38 memoranda of understanding worth ₹64,703 crore, with a potential 46,071 jobs, along with investment intention forms valued at ₹1,689 crore that could create another 8,064 positions. Officials also held 46 high-level meetings and 208 industry interactions across engineering goods, textiles and apparel, aluminium downstream industries and electronics, while separate roundtables explored supply-chain integration, export potential and greater participation by micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
The latest announcement adds to a broader wave of industrial activity in Odisha. Business Standard reported in July that the state-level single window clearance authority approved 23 projects worth about ₹4,574 crore across 11 districts, with companies including HCL Technologies and ACME Cleantech. In another large commitment, Adani Group has announced ₹33,081 crore of investment in Odisha for a data centre, a thermal power plant and a cement unit, while Adani Enterprises has also signed an agreement with the state for a ₹1.08 lakh crore aluminium project with Abu Dhabi’s IHC. Taken together, the announcements suggest Odisha is trying to deepen its industrial base while drawing in capital for both labour-intensive manufacturing and heavy industry.
