Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a comprehensive 2047 vision for India during his Independence Day address, emphasising youth-led growth, reforms, and strategic initiatives to accelerate the nation’s development towards becoming a developed country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his Independence Day address on Saturday to place young people at the centre of his pitch for India’s next phase of growth, combining promises of jobs and reform with a broad economic agenda that he said would help the country move towards developed-nation status by 2047. Business Standard reported that the speech from the Red Fort repeatedly urged “yuva Shakti” to act as agents of change, while also setting out the government’s seven-part “Sapta Dhara” plan.
The strategy is intended to push manufacturing, food processing, technology, innovation, connectivity, defence production, green and blue economy jobs, and India’s soft power, including yoga and traditional healthcare, according to the Business Standard summary. Modi also said the government wanted 50 Indian companies in the Fortune 500 within the next decade, and he called on the Centre, states and local bodies to speed up reforms.
His remarks also reflected a sharper focus on self-reliance at a time of global uncertainty. According to Business Standard, Modi referred to planned semiconductor capacity, critical minerals, energy security and five new nuclear reactors within this decade, while urging small and medium-sized firms to use India’s network of free trade agreements to make more competitive goods. He also argued that work not completed in the past five to seven decades must now be finished in the next five to seven years.
The youth theme was reinforced by pledges on education and skills. Business Standard said Modi promised to train 10 million young people in artificial intelligence over the next year, expand universities and provide free online coaching for exam candidates. The speech also included a call for political parties to support quicker implementation of 33 per cent representation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
