India’s Logistics Data Bank has now tracked 10 crore EXIM containers, marking a major step in leveraging technology to boost exports and make industry more competitive, according to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
India’s logistics overhaul could become one of its most important export tools, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday, as the Logistics Data Bank crossed a major tracking milestone. According to the announcement, the platform has now monitored 10 crore EXIM containers, underscoring the scale of India’s push to use technology to streamline trade flows.
Goyal said better logistics would help make Indian industry more competitive by cutting delays and improving visibility across the supply chain. The Logistics Data Bank uses RFID-based tracking to provide end-to-end monitoring of container movement, and the system now covers the full scope of the country’s EXIM container traffic across 19 ports and 32 container terminals, according to the statement.
The platform’s reach extends far beyond the ports. It also spans inland depots, container freight stations, empty yards, parking plazas, industrial zones, manufacturing special economic zones, railway stations, toll plazas and integrated check posts. The data generated, the ministry said, helps exporters, importers, logistics operators and policymakers identify bottlenecks, measure dwell times and transit times, and assess port and terminal performance.
The latest milestone fits into a wider policy push by Goyal to strengthen manufacturing, exports and self-reliance. In recent weeks, he has linked India’s trade ambitions to innovation, MSMEs, quality manufacturing and lower logistics costs, while also projecting a goal of $1 trillion in exports in FY27. In September 2025, he launched LDB 2.0, which added high-seas tracking and multimodal shipment visibility, expanding the platform’s usefulness for firms managing cargo across multiple transport links.
