India’s business travel industry is projected to expand significantly by 2026, reaching an estimated $46.9 billion, as economic growth and digital upgrades fuel cross-border and domestic trips, positioning India as a leading Asia-Pacific market.
India’s business travel market is on course to expand again in 2026, with spending forecast to reach $46.9 billion, according to the Global Business Travel Association. That would represent annual growth of 8.7% and place India as the world’s eighth-largest market for business travel, as well as the third-largest in Asia-Pacific. The industry’s reach goes well beyond flights and hotel rooms, supporting aviation, accommodation, meetings and events, ground transport and a wider chain of suppliers.
The forecast points to a sector being pulled forward by broader economic shifts. Investment in manufacturing, companies diversifying supply chains and higher foreign direct investment are all helping to drive more cross-border and domestic trips as firms deepen commercial ties and widen regional operations. Grand View Research has also projected that India’s business travel market will continue rising, estimating it at $126.2 billion by 2026 and forecasting compound annual growth of 7.6% through 2033.
Other industry assessments underline the scale of the rebound. IMARC Group said the market reached $44.6 billion in 2025, while a separate analysis cited by Nomad Lawyer found that 74% of Indian organisations expect business travel to grow substantially through 2026. That optimism reflects both the recovery in corporate activity and the wider digital transformation of Indian business, which is increasing the need for face-to-face meetings even as companies use more technology to manage trips more efficiently.
GBTA is positioning itself to benefit from that growth. Following its Asia-Pacific conference, which drew more than 1,100 delegates, the association is expanding its education and professional-development work across the region. It also plans to stage its largest India conference yet in Mumbai in early 2027, with the event expected to focus on networking, sustainability, traveller experience, procurement and emerging technologies. The broader backdrop is one of record global demand: GBTA has forecast that worldwide business travel spending will rise to $1.71 trillion in 2026, alongside about 1.84 billion business trips, with higher transport and travel costs helping to push spending faster than trip volumes.
