India’s coffee exports reached over 140 countries in FY2025-26, with significant growth in premium, GI-tagged varieties and new markets such as Djibouti, Micronesia, and Timor-Leste, supported by government initiatives to boost visibility and high-value branding.
India said coffee exports reached more than 140 countries in FY2025-26, with the strongest gains in the United Arab Emirates, Libya, Australia, South Korea, Egypt, Kuwait and the United Kingdom, and first-time shipments going to Djibouti, Micronesia and Timor-Leste. The announcement came as the government highlighted a wider push to raise the profile of Indian coffee abroad and to move beyond bulk exports into higher-value branded and origin-specific sales.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said the Coffee Board has been working to promote GI-tagged coffee and support growers cultivating registered varieties, including Wayanad Robusta Coffee. The board is the authorised user registrar for GI-tagged coffees and has been holding awareness programmes to encourage registration across the supply chain.
The Coffee Board has also been organising tasting sessions, buyer-seller meetings and appearances at trade fairs and food and beverage events. The government said these efforts are part of a broader strategy to lift the visibility of Indian coffee, especially GI-registered varieties, while helping small and tribal growers through the Integrated Coffee Development Project. The board has also worked with Indian missions overseas on Gourmet GI Coffee Gift Boxes to promote origin-linked products in foreign markets.
Prasada said the average export unit values of GI-registered Arabica and Robusta coffees rose sharply in FY2025-26 compared with the previous year, increasing by 34.36% and 29.73% respectively. The government has also been using events such as India GI Fair, GI Mahotsav and GI pavilions at exhibitions at home and abroad to market protected products. The Coffee Board said it has taken part in 41 international fairs since 2018-19 as part of its efforts to build demand for Indian coffee and expand premium retail packs carrying the Coffees of India branding.
