Hinduja Group unveils ₹2,500 crore Tamil Nadu investment to accelerate clean energy and mobility

Hinduja Group plans a ₹2,500 crore expansion in Tamil Nadu focused on renewable power and electric mobility, strengthening the state’s foundation as a hub for clean industry and advanced transport technology.

Hinduja Group has outlined a ₹2,500 crore plan for Tamil Nadu that would widen its footprint in renewable energy and new mobility, adding fresh momentum to the state’s effort to position itself as a centre for clean industry and advanced transport. The announcement comes as the wider group steps up investment across green power, battery systems and charging-related infrastructure, according to industry reports.

The investment is expected to span solar, wind and hybrid power projects, alongside technologies linked to electric mobility. Hinduja’s strategy reflects a broader push among Indian industrial groups to pair power generation with transport electrification, especially as companies look for ways to build more integrated energy systems that can support both factories and vehicles.

Tamil Nadu is well placed to benefit. The state already has a strong manufacturing base, a large automotive supply chain and a long-established renewable energy sector, particularly in wind. That combination has made it one of India’s more attractive destinations for investors seeking to scale clean-energy projects and mobility operations at the same time.

The new plan also builds on earlier moves by Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja-owned commercial vehicle maker, which began work on a battery pack manufacturing facility in Pillaipakkam, near Chennai. Separate reports said that project involves an investment of ₹400 crore to ₹500 crore and is intended to strengthen the state’s electric vehicle ecosystem. Other reports have said the group previously committed ₹7,500 crore to Tamil Nadu’s EV ecosystem, including battery storage systems and charging infrastructure, underscoring the scale of its wider ambitions in the state. Analysts say such investments could support jobs, deepen local supply chains and help Tamil Nadu consolidate its role in India’s transition to cleaner energy and transport.
