EKA Mobility has appointed Prashant Kumar Banerjee as group head of government and corporate affairs, signalling a strategic move to strengthen its influence and expand its electric commercial vehicle footprint amid rapid growth and ambitious capacity plans in India.
EKA Mobility has named Prashant Kumar Banerjee as group head of government and corporate affairs, adding a veteran auto policy executive to a company that is trying to expand its position in India’s electric commercial vehicle market. The Pune-based manufacturer said Banerjee will oversee government relations, public policy, corporate affairs and corporate social responsibility across the group as it works to deepen ties with policymakers, industry bodies and other stakeholders.
The move comes as EKA steps up its broader expansion plans. In a recent update, the company said it recorded 5 times year-on-year volume growth in fiscal 2025-26, with 1,143 vehicles sold and 1,344 electric commercial vehicles produced. It also said it had added a new plant and lifted planned annual capacity to 10,000 buses, 6,000 trucks and 24,000 small commercial vehicles, underscoring the scale of its ambitions in a crowded market.
Banerjee joins after more than 36 years in the automotive industry. EKA said he has worked with Tata Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, Daewoo Motors, Toyota and IIT Bombay, and most recently served as executive director at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, where he was involved in regulations, standards and policy advocacy. The company said he has represented India at United Nations Economic Commission for Europe WP.29 forums since 2003 and chairs India’s GRSG on vehicle construction rules, with a focus on electric and hydrogen mobility.
His appointment also reflects EKA’s effort to build out its leadership bench as it broadens its product and technology footprint. The company has recently highlighted new product and market initiatives, including the launch of an electric bus with Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems and deliveries of electric buses to municipal operators. In that context, Banerjee’s role is likely to matter not only for regulation and public policy but also for how EKA positions itself as a supplier of cleaner commercial transport in India.
