Indian Railways boosts digital ticketing with new app discount scheme

Indian Railways is encouraging cashless travel by offering a 3% discount on unreserved tickets booked via the RailOne app, aiming to reduce queues and simplify short-distance travel for commuters.

Indian Railways is pushing more passengers towards digital ticketing with its RailOne app, which now lets people book unreserved, or general, tickets without visiting a station counter. The move is designed to cut queues and make short-distance travel easier for commuters who rely on ordinary train services.

The latest offer is a 3% discount on unreserved tickets booked through the app, according to reports in The Times of India, The Economic Times and NDTV. Those reports say the concession applies when passengers pay through digital methods, including UPI, debit cards, credit cards and net banking, and is intended to encourage cashless bookings. Some reports say the scheme began on January 14, 2026 and is set to run until July 14, 2026.

Indian Railway officials have been promoting the feature on social media, with a post from DRM Prayagraj on X describing the service as a way to begin journeys with the RailOne app. The app is meant to serve as a broader railway platform as well, bringing together ticket booking, train tracking and customer support in one place.

For passengers, the booking process is straightforward: download RailOne from the Google Play or Apple App Store, allow the required permissions, log in with an IRCTC account or verify a mobile number by OTP, then choose the unreserved ticket option, enter the source and destination stations, select a travel date and pay to receive a QR ticket. The feature reflects Indian Railways’ wider effort to shift routine transactions from physical counters to smartphones.
