Mahindra appoints Shveta Arya as new Group Chief Strategy Officer to accelerate diversification

Mahindra Group has named Shveta Arya as its next Group Chief Strategy Officer, positioning her to lead the conglomerate’s efforts to identify expansion opportunities and enhance value across its diverse portfolio of industries.

Mahindra Group has named Shveta Arya as its next Group Chief Strategy Officer, a role that will place her at the centre of the conglomerate’s efforts to identify expansion opportunities and extract more value from its wide-ranging businesses. She is due to take up the post on September 15, 2026, and will also join the senior management of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and the Group Executive Board.

Arya will report to Anish Shah, the group chief executive and managing director. In a statement, Shah said she brings more than two decades of experience in strategy, business leadership and consulting across a range of sectors, and that her background in steering growth and managing change would support Mahindra’s push to build longer-term value.

Her appointment comes as Mahindra continues to strengthen its top team across several parts of the group. In recent months, the company has named Purnima Lamba as chief brand officer and Asha Kharga as chief customer officer at Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd, moves that point to a broader effort to sharpen brand, customer and strategic capabilities across the group.

Arya joins from Cummins India, where she was managing director and oversaw growth, customer success, talent development and workplace culture. Before that, she led strategy and mergers and acquisitions at Thomas Cook India and held positions at Kearney and Infosys. She has worked across automotive, travel, financial services and telecom, industries that overlap with several of Mahindra’s businesses. Arya holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and an engineering degree in information technology from Delhi University. Mahindra also noted her advocacy for diversity, inclusion and women’s empowerment.

The new role gives Arya responsibility for a group strategy function that cuts across Mahindra’s portfolio rather than focusing on a single operating company. The conglomerate has interests in farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology, financial services, renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, hospitality and real estate. Mahindra had previously expanded the remit of its strategy office under Amarjyoti Barua, who moved on to become group chief financial officer, underlining the company’s tendency to rotate experienced leaders through key enterprise-wide roles.
