Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail reports a slight widening of net loss despite a 10.6% revenue increase, reflecting ongoing challenges post-restructuring amidst continued retail demand growth.
Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail reported a narrower operational improvement but a slightly larger bottom-line loss in the quarter to June 30, even as sales continued to rise. According to the company’s results released on Saturday, the consolidated net loss came in at ₹215 crore, compared with ₹212 crore a year earlier, while revenue increased 10.6% to ₹2,026 crore.
Operating profit also improved, though at a slower pace than sales. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation rose 4.7% to ₹117 crore, but the Ebitda margin eased to 5.8% from 6.1% a year earlier, pointing to some pressure on profitability despite stronger top-line growth.
The latest figures come after a series of sharp swings in the company’s financial performance over recent years. Business Standard reported that Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail posted a consolidated net loss of ₹233.73 crore in the quarter a year earlier on revenue of ₹1,831.46 crore, following a much larger revenue base in prior periods before the business restructure. The same outlet also noted that the company had earlier reported a loss of ₹214.92 crore in the comparable quarter of the previous financial year, alongside revenue of ₹3,427.82 crore.
The broader group has been reshaped by the demerger of its lifestyle brands arm. Business Standard reported that Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands, which emerged after the separation, posted a consolidated net profit of ₹24.06 crore in the June quarter, with revenue rising 6% to ₹1,570 crore. That contrast suggests the restructuring has left the remaining fashion business with a leaner but still lossmaking profile, even as retail demand and turnover continue to improve.
