India’s Petroleum Ministry has made Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC a key requirement for domestic LPG users, with oil marketing companies saying the check is meant to verify consumer details, reduce duplicate or fake connections and keep subsidy records current. According to recent reporting by several Indian publications, the process can be completed from home on a smartphone through the official apps of Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum, together with the Aadhaar FaceRD application.
The move has prompted fresh urgency among households using Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas, especially those whose verification is still pending. MediaNama reported in March that the mandate applies to consumers who have not already completed e-KYC, while users who have finished the process earlier do not need to repeat it. GoodReturns also reported that the ministry clarified this point, countering confusion that every LPG customer would have to go through the process again.
The deadline now being circulated is August 16, 2026. Oil marketing companies have warned that consumers who miss the cut-off could face disruption to subsidies and, in some cases, LPG services. That makes the verification more than a formality: it is now tied to continued access to benefits for eligible households.
For Indian Oil customers, the process begins in the IndianOil One app, where users link their 16-digit LPG ID, open the Indane details section and choose the re-KYC option before moving to face scan authentication through Aadhaar FaceRD. HP Gas customers are directed to use the HP Pay app, open the LPG section and select e-KYC or capture face, which then connects to Aadhaar FaceRD for biometric verification. Bharat Gas customers are told to use the Hello BPCL app, open the e-KYC or biometric authentication option and complete the Aadhaar face check on screen. Reports from NDTV, Indian Express, Upstox and Moneycontrol say the aim is to make the process quick, remote and accessible, while tightening control over subsidy leakage.
Officials and company guidance also stress a few practical steps: the mobile number linked to the gas connection should match the one used for login, Aadhaar details should be current and the face scan should be done in good light. For consumers still pending, the message from the companies is simple: complete the verification now rather than wait until services are affected.
