JCB and Trend Micro have made their generative AI-powered fraud screening tool permanently available in the MyJCB app, aiming to combat the surge in phishing and card fraud in Japan with enhanced real-time detection features.
JCB and Trend Micro have made a generative AI-powered fraud screening tool permanently available inside the MyJCB smartphone app, widening access to a feature that was previously tested with selected users. The companies said on August 6 that the “fraud check” function can now be used at any time by MyJCB app users, as they step up efforts to combat phishing and card fraud.
The tool is designed to analyse suspicious emails, SMS and MMS messages, social media posts, websites and online advert screenshots for signs of deception. Users can also enter doubtful links, email addresses or phone numbers to check whether they may be linked to fraud. If the system flags a concern, it provides suggested next steps, although both companies stress that it is not a complete defence against every scam.
The rollout follows a trial run that began in August 2025 and was extended after positive feedback. According to Trend Micro’s announcement and JCB’s security updates, the pilot was later continued into early 2026, with more than 6,000 cardholders using the feature during the testing phase. JCB said the service is now being offered as a second stage of the partnership after those results.
The expansion comes against a difficult backdrop. Japanese phishing reports hit a record of about 2.45 million cases in 2025, and the credit card and consumer finance sector accounted for the largest share of targeted phishing in a May 2026 monthly report, at about 47.8%. JCB also said card fraud losses in 2025 reached ¥51.05 billion, down from ¥55.5 billion in 2024 but still elevated. The company already runs a 24-hour fraud detection system that can temporarily suspend card use and contact customers when unusual activity is detected.
MyJCB is JCB’s member portal for checking spending, points and security alerts, while the app adds features such as spending graphs, statement search and push notifications for suspected misuse. JCB and Trend Micro said they plan to deepen their cooperation and broaden security measures aimed at protecting cardholders and the wider digital environment in Japan.
