Emcure Pharmaceuticals has announced a 36.2% rise in quarterly profit to Rs 292.5 crore, with international revenue leading the growth and increased focus on research and development shaping its strategic outlook for FY27.
Emcure Pharmaceuticals reported a sharp rise in quarterly profit on Thursday as stronger sales at home and abroad lifted performance in the three months to June 30. The Mumbai-based drugmaker said consolidated profit after tax climbed 36.2% year on year to Rs 292.5 crore, while revenue increased 22.8% to Rs 2,580.4 crore. EBITDA, a measure of operating profit, rose 25.8% to Rs 508 crore and the margin edged up to 19.7%, reflecting firmer operating discipline and better sales mix.
The company said domestic sales increased 10.2% to Rs 1,095.3 crore, supported by brands in the central nervous system, cardiology and women’s health categories, along with improved execution at Zuventus. International revenue rose 34.2% to Rs 1,485.1 crore and made up 57.6% of consolidated turnover. Emcure said growth overseas was driven by a stronger base business, new launches and favourable currency movements, with Europe, Canada and the rest of the world all posting double-digit gains.
The quarter also included heavier investment in research and development, with Emcure spending Rs 90.4 crore, or 3.5% of revenue, on R&D. The company said it secured more than 15 product approvals across developed and emerging markets during the period. In a separate company update on its first-quarter results, Emcure said net profit rose 41% and revenue from operations reached Rs 2,101 crore, while also announcing an expanded partnership with Sanofi to distribute its oral anti-diabetic portfolio in India.
Managing director and chief executive Satish Mehta said the company had entered the second year of its five-year plan on a stronger footing and that FY27 would be about delivery after a year spent building the foundations across teams, portfolio, integration and operating discipline. Emcure also announced management changes, naming Samit Mehta chief operating officer. Chairman Berjis Desai is set to step down from the board after the next annual general meeting following his appointment to the National Commission for Minorities, after which Satish Mehta will also take over as chairman.
