Libyan Social Security urges pensioners to adhere to annual declaration deadlines to avoid suspension

The Jufra branch of Libya’s Social Security Fund has issued a reminder for pensioners to complete their yearly declarations on time, highlighting the importance for ongoing payments and administrative compliance amid tightened oversight.

The Social Security Fund’s Jufra branch has urged pensioners to complete their annual declaration on time, saying the routine filing is essential to keep payments flowing without interruption and to avoid administrative action. According to the fund’s latest guidance, the declaration is part of the mechanism used to verify beneficiary data, check continued eligibility and keep pension records up to date.

The branch said the deadline depends on the last digit on the right-hand side of each pension number, with every digit assigned to a specific month. In its example, a pension number ending in 0 would require the declaration to be filed in October, while numbers ending in 1 and 2 correspond to January and February respectively. The fund said the form must be completed at the pensioner’s local office.

Officials warned that missing the deadline can have consequences, including suspension of payments until the required paperwork is completed. They also said the fund may seek recovery of sums paid without proper entitlement and may suspend a pension temporarily or permanently, depending on the circumstances. In a separate notice, the Jufra branch said the published lists relate to the 2026 annual declaration and apply to May filings, urging retirees named in those lists to ensure they submit the form in May in future years.

The latest reminder comes as the fund continues to tighten oversight of pension files across its branches. Reuters-style reporting from local outlets has also noted that the process for linking new pensions can take two to three months, while other services, including annual declarations and retiree assistance, are being handled through regional social security units in areas such as western Jufra and Kufra.
