At the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, India’s prime minister said rapid growth and digital progress must spread opportunity rather than concentrate power.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi used a recent address at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum to present India as a model of growth that, he argued, must widen opportunity rather than concentrate it. In remarks highlighted by News18, Modi said India believes in helping others rise as it advances, and tied that message to technology, economic development and poverty reduction.
According to ET Now, Modi pointed to India’s fast-growing startup ecosystem, saying the country now has more than 250,000 startups, while stressing that technology should be used to create opportunities for millions. The Times of India reported that he framed the debate around not who holds power, but how power is used, arguing that digital progress should be made accessible to everyone.
Modi also cited a government claim that 250 million Indians have moved out of poverty, a figure that fits with the broader narrative his administration has pushed on inclusion and digital delivery. Moneycontrol has noted that over the past 12 years India has nearly doubled the size of its economy, expanded infrastructure rapidly and become a far more digital and internationally connected country.
The prime minister has made similar arguments before, warning that technology should serve development rather than destruction, and that innovation must be judged by whether it improves lives. That message has become a recurring theme in his public remarks as India seeks to position itself as both a growth story and a technology leader in the global economy.
