mPokket aims to accelerate India’s underserved credit growth with Rs 25,000 crore target in three years

Digital lender mPokket plans to more than double its loan disbursal to over Rs 25,000 crore within three years, targeting India’s untapped small-ticket credit market and expanding its reach among new-to-credit customers.

mPokket is aiming to more than double down on India’s underserved borrowing market, with the digital lender setting a target of more than Rs 25,000 crore in annual loan disbursals and a loan book above Rs 20,000 crore within the next three years. Founder and chief executive Gaurav Jalan said the company is banking on demand for small-ticket credit among borrowers who have traditionally been left outside the formal system.

Jalan also said the fintech expects lifetime disbursals to pass $5.5 billion, or more than Rs 52,000 crore, during the current financial year. He said the company wants to expand credit access while maintaining strict controls on risk, a balance that has become central to digital lenders operating in India’s fast-growing consumer finance market.

The lender said it has already brought more than 6.5 million new-to-credit customers into the formal financial system, helped by average annual growth of 20% in such customer acquisition over the past three years. It has mainly focused on young salaried workers, self-employed borrowers and college students in tier-2 and tier-3 towns, where access to short-term credit is often limited.

The company has also widened its product range by raising the borrowing limit for small business owners to as much as Rs 2 lakh. That move has broadened its customer base and underlined its push to build a larger franchise in the new-to-credit segment, which lenders see as a major growth opportunity as digital underwriting and mobile-first lending continue to deepen access to loans.
