KKR-backed PMI Electro files confidential IPO in Mumbai amid rising EV demand

PMI Electro Mobility Solutions, backed by KKR, has confidentially filed for an IPO in Mumbai, signalling increased investor interest in India’s low-emission transport sector as the company looks to expand its fleet of electric buses across the country.

PMI Electro Mobility Solutions, the electric bus maker backed by KKR, has confidentially filed for an initial public offering in Mumbai, according to a newspaper advertisement published on Friday. The move would add to a growing pipeline of Indian transport and clean-energy companies looking to tap public markets as demand for low-emission fleet operators gains traction.

Founded in 2017, PMI Electro has built a fleet of about 3,300 electric buses operating across 34 Indian cities. The company competes with listed peers including Olectra Greentech, JBM Auto and Tata Motors, placing it in one of the most closely watched corners of India’s commercial electric-vehicle market.

The proposed listing comes only months after KKR agreed to invest up to $310 million in PMI Electro and its e-bus platform, Allfleet India. According to KKR’s announcement, the private equity firm is taking a majority stake in Allfleet and a minority position in PMI Electro as part of its first climate-focused investment in India. Business Standard reported that the deal was expected to close in mid-2026, subject to regulatory approvals, while Allfleet was preparing to deploy more than 5,000 electric buses under contracts with several state transport authorities.

India’s confidential filing route allows companies to submit draft IPO documents to the securities regulator without making them public immediately, giving them a way to protect sensitive financial and commercial information while still receiving regulatory feedback. That process has become an increasingly attractive option for firms that want to test market conditions before revealing full details of their offer.
