Adani commits $10.4 billion to transform West Bengal’s infrastructure and healthcare by 2035

Gautam Adani announced a landmark investment plan of over $10 billion into West Bengal by 2035, encompassing energy, logistics, data centres, and a new 2,000-bed hospital, signalling a major regional development push.

Adani Group has pledged to pour 1 trillion rupees, or about $10.43 billion, into West Bengal by 2035 as it expands across infrastructure and adjacent sectors, Gautam Adani said at a public ceremony in Kolkata. According to Reuters, the plan covers power generation, logistics, data centres and transport links including roads, bridges and ropeways, signalling a deeper push into one of India’s key eastern industrial markets.

The announcement fits a broader shift at the ports-to-power conglomerate, which is increasingly positioning itself beyond its traditional transport and energy base. LiveMint and Business Standard reported that the proposed spending also extends to ports, transmission and distribution, green cement and hyperscale data centres, underlining the group’s effort to build a wider infrastructure and digital platform as India’s economy grows.

Health care featured prominently in the package. At the foundation-laying ceremony for a 2,000-bed hospital in New Town, near Kolkata, Adani said the group would commit 40 billion rupees to the project, which also includes a medical college and research facility. Reuters reported that the health care venture is expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs across the state, while Adani’s own statement said the facility is intended to serve large numbers of both inpatients and outpatients.

The scale of the promise is notable for a state that has long sought more private investment in heavy infrastructure and services. By tying together logistics, power, digital infrastructure and health care in a single long-term plan, Adani is signalling confidence in West Bengal’s commercial prospects, while also deepening the group’s presence in a region where execution, regulation and political backing will be critical to turning pledges into projects.
