Samsung India’s profit plunge highlights margin struggles amid fierce market competition

Samsung India reports a 36% drop in annual profit despite revenue crossing Rs 1 trillion, amid intensifying competition and cost pressures in the Indian consumer electronics sector.

Samsung India Electronics has reported a sharp drop in annual profit even as revenue continued to edge higher, underscoring the pressure on margins in one of the country’s most competitive consumer technology markets. According to regulatory filings accessed through the business intelligence platform Tofler, consolidated profit fell 36% in the financial year ended March 31, 2026, to Rs 7,228.10 crore from Rs 11,287.50 crore a year earlier, while revenue from operations rose 1.2% to Rs 1.12 trillion.

The company’s total consolidated income, including other income, reached Rs 1,14,738.60 crore. Samsung India draws much of its business from mobile phones, but it also has a sizeable presence in televisions, tablets, home appliances and computers. The latest figures leave it as the only company in India’s appliance and consumer electronics sector to have crossed the Rs 1 trillion turnover mark, a sign of its scale even as profit came under strain.

The softer earnings arrive against a backdrop of intense rivalry in India’s smartphone and electronics segments, where both global and domestic brands are fighting for share. The report also noted that LG Electronics posted broadly steady growth during the same period, with total income rising by nearly 1% to Rs 2,46,049.12 crore. Separately, multiple reports earlier this month said Samsung India had laid off executives across its television and home appliance businesses as part of a cost-rationalisation drive linked to weaker demand, higher operating costs and restructuring.
