West Bengal intensifies investment bid with Reliance’s Mukesh Ambani and potential ventures in IT and biogas

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s meeting with Mukesh Ambani marks a strategic push to attract major industrial investments in West Bengal, focusing on sectors like IT, semiconductors, and biogas amid ongoing efforts to boost the state’s economic recovery.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai this week as part of a renewed push to draw large-scale investment into the state, with the discussion centring on industrial expansion and job creation, according to reports in the Deccan Chronicle and The Times of India.

Adhikari said on X that he visited the Reliance Industries chairman’s residence on Monday evening, where he offered prayers before Lord Ganesha and presented the Ambani family with a holy memento of Maa Kali. In his post, he said the conversation touched on “immense possibilities” for industrial growth in West Bengal and described the state as open to “visionary investments” that could support young people and promote economic recovery.

The Times of India reported that the meeting also included Anant Ambani and covered possible investment opportunities in information technology, semiconductors and biogas. The paper said talks extended to the prospect of a Vantara project in Bengal, with the state reportedly willing to consider sites in the Terai-Dooars region and in parts of Purulia, Bankura and Jhargram.

The visit comes as Adhikari steps up efforts to court major industrial groups after taking office, with The Indian Express reporting that he has said the administration has tried to make the state more business-friendly over the past four months. The same report said the chief minister has also been in contact with Gautam Adani’s family, while The Week noted that other projects, including a hospital ceremony in New Town and planned factory investments, are also part of the wider investment drive.
