NLB Services said demand is likely to be concentrated in e-commerce, quick commerce, retail, logistics, travel, hospitality and consumer services, reflecting how the festive rush is now drawing in a wider set of industries.
The company said employers are starting to plan recruitment 12 to 14 weeks before peak demand, as festive hiring shifts from a short-term stopgap to a more structured way of building talent pipelines. Varun Sachdeva, senior vice president and APAC head at NLB Services, said the season has become a stress test for India’s labour market, with firms leaning more heavily on workers who can be deployed quickly and supported by technology.
A notable feature of this year’s outlook is the growing role of smaller cities. Around 45% of festive hiring demand is expected to come from tier-2 and tier-3 markets, with hiring in those locations forecast to rise by 25% to 30%, according to the summaries of NLB Services and Adecco India. Cities including Jaipur, Lucknow, Indore, Surat, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Chandigarh and Kochi are seeing stronger demand as organised retail, delivery networks and digital commerce spread beyond the biggest metros.
Freshers and women are also emerging as important pools of labour, while employers are increasingly looking for candidates with basic digital skills rather than only traditional frontline experience. Separate industry reports, including one cited by TeamLease Services, suggest the festive hiring boom is becoming more specialised, with companies seeking workers who can handle warehouse operations, last-mile delivery, customer support and other time-sensitive roles.
