Delhi Police dismantled a cyber-fraud ring operating via mule bank accounts, arresting three men involved in a fake refund scam. Authorities seized mobile phones, vehicles, and digital evidence amid ongoing investigations to trace further participants and financial trails.
Delhi Police have broken up a cyber-fraud ring that investigators say relied on mule bank accounts to move stolen money, arresting three men after a complaint about a fake refund scam.
The case began with Gopal Krishna, who lost ₹47,971 after ordering dry fruit online after seeing a Facebook advert. According to the report, fraudsters then reached him on WhatsApp and told him the order could not be delivered, but that a refund would be issued. Instead, the steps he was asked to follow triggered an unauthorised debit from his bank account.
Police said the inquiry was assigned to a specialist team from PS Cyber East, working under Amandeep Kaur and SHO Pawan Yadav. Investigators examined bank records, ATM withdrawal trails, mobile phone data and the movements of suspects before identifying Sunny, Zaid and Ghani Khan. Police said Sunny’s account was allegedly used as a mule account to receive the fraud proceeds, while his phone yielded digital evidence linked to the circulation of bank accounts. During questioning, he allegedly described a wider arrangement involving ATM cards, account-opening kits and cash withdrawals.
Further investigation linked Zaid and Ghani Khan to the collection and transport of account-opening kits in Delhi, and police detained them near Nizamuddin. Officers also seized a white Maruti Suzuki Brezza said to have been used in that operation, along with mobile phones and other material. Delhi Police said all three men have been sent to judicial custody while investigators work to identify other participants, trace the full money trail and find additional mule accounts tied to the network.
