Visa and the Open Network for Digital Commerce announced a collaboration at the Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai to unify digital travel discovery and booking, boosting regional tourism and supporting local businesses across India.
Visa and the Open Network for Digital Commerce have said they plan to explore a partnership aimed at making it easier for travellers to find and book tourism experiences across India, a move announced at the Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai on 17 September 2026.
The companies said the idea is to combine Visa’s digital commerce and discovery tools with ONDC’s open-network infrastructure, with the aim of bringing destinations, itineraries and local tourism businesses into a more unified digital environment. According to ONDC, its travel and experiences platform already supports discovery and booking across a broad range of offerings, including experiences, archaeological sites, events and walking tours.
Suresh Sethi, Visa’s group country manager for India and South Asia, said at the festival that India’s digital public infrastructure creates an opportunity to build a more connected tourism ecosystem. He said the aim was to make it simpler for visitors, whether from India or overseas, to discover places and experiences, while also helping smaller businesses reach more travellers.
Visa and ONDC said they will now assess how open-network principles, trusted commerce and digital tools could be used to broaden tourism participation across regions and local economies. The approach reflects a wider push in India to use digital infrastructure not only for payments and retail, but also for services such as travel, where discovery is often fragmented across multiple apps and intermediaries.
