Mahansaria Group commits $100 million to develop large-scale radial off-the-road tyres for mining, aiming to reduce reliance on imports and bolster India’s industrial self-sufficiency with new infrastructure and advanced technology.
Mahansaria Group has committed $100 million to build out its capability to make giant radial off-the-road tyres for mining, a move that could reshape a corner of India’s industrial supply chain that has long depended on imports. According to reports in India and the Press Trust of India, the investment will support new manufacturing infrastructure, specialist production technology, testing facilities and engineering talent for the Ascenso brand.
The push marks a significant step beyond Ascenso Tyres’ established business in agriculture, forestry and construction. The company said its mining line has moved from 25-inch tyres to 49-inch products, with larger formats in development and a longer-term plan to reach 63 inches in diameter. That would place it among a very small group of tyre makers globally able to produce such equipment, and only the second Indian group after BKT to do so.
The timing reflects a wider shift in India’s mining industry, where demand for heavy equipment is rising and operators are looking for suppliers that can deliver both performance and better cost control. Yogesh Mahansaria, managing director of Ascenso Tyres, said the investment is intended to build “world-class radial mining tyre engineering and manufacturing capability within the country”, while chief executive Dhaval Nanavati said reaching 49-inch tyres made in India was a significant milestone for the company and for domestic manufacturing more broadly.
Ascenso says its roadmap runs through 2027 and 2028, with additional sizes and tread patterns planned for mining, earthmoving and loader applications. The company’s manufacturing base is in Gujarat, and the new programme is aimed at serving Indian customers as well as export markets, after years in which large-format mining tyres were sourced overwhelmingly from overseas suppliers.
