UIDAI launches new face-authentication toolkit to streamline Aadhaar verification for financial firms

India’s Unique Identification Authority has unveiled advanced face-authentication tools at Global Fintech Fest 2026, enabling seamless and secure onboarding processes for banks, insurers, and fintech companies via integrated mobile app verification.

India’s Unique Identification Authority has rolled out a new face-authentication toolkit aimed at making Aadhaar-based verification easier for banks, insurers and fintech firms. Announced at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, the package pairs a software development kit with a dedicated sandbox so firms can build Aadhaar face verification directly into their own mobile apps, cutting out the need for customers to move between separate applications during onboarding.

The new software is intended to make digital sign-up smoother while keeping security controls in place. It includes AI- and machine-learning-based liveness detection, which helps confirm that a real person is present, as well as anti-spoofing safeguards and encrypted handling of authentication data. In practical terms, a customer using a banking, broking or insurance app should be able to complete the face check without leaving that app.

UIDAI has also published a playbook to help banking, financial services and insurance companies join its authentication ecosystem. The authority said the sandbox will let developers and quality assurance teams test the full process before going live, including consent capture, face scanning, liveness checks, error handling and response validation. The controlled environment can also simulate failures such as bad digital signatures, network problems, time-outs and spoofing attempts, without requiring external biometric hardware.

The launch reflects long-standing demands from the financial sector for a cleaner onboarding flow. According to UIDAI, its face-authentication system, introduced in 2021, has already been adopted by nearly 200 entities, including central and state government bodies, lenders, telecom operators, brokers and certifying authorities. The authority said the upgrade should allow more organisations to deploy Aadhaar-based verification more efficiently across consumer smartphones, while reducing dependence on the older FaceRD app journey.
