Npci and Nvidia unveil open AI training platform for banking agents using synthetic data

The National Payments Corporation of India and Nvidia have launched an open environment for training banking AI agents with synthetic data, aiming to enhance security, scalability, and standardisation across financial institutions at the Global Fintech Fest 2026.

National Payments Corporation of India and Nvidia have launched an open training environment for banking AI agents, aiming to help financial institutions build and test systems that can handle customer requests using synthetic data rather than live account information.

The platform, unveiled at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, is designed to let conversational AI assistants progress into tool-using agents that can carry out tasks within set banking rules. According to Business Today, it gives banks, fintechs and research teams a common base for training, evaluation and comparison before any model is deployed in customer-facing work.

NPCI says the system was built with Nvidia NeMo’s reinforcement-learning framework and is intended for contribution to NeMo Gym, an open library focused on improving AI agents. The framework follows open standards, including the Model Context Protocol, so that institutions can adapt it for different banking workflows and extend it to other tasks and domains.

The launch builds on a wider push by NPCI into sovereign AI. In February, the payments body said it was working with Nvidia on payments-native AI model capabilities aligned with India’s data-sovereignty and regulatory needs. NPCI has also been widening its AI footprint across the payments stack, after unveiling AI-based UPI HELP at Global Fintech Fest 2025 to assist with payments, mandates and disputes.

For NPCI, the attraction of the new environment is not only privacy but also scale. Synthetic data allows model training without exposing customer records, while a shared benchmark could give banks and fintechs a more consistent way to measure whether an agent is accurate, safe and useful enough for deployment. That fits the festival’s broader emphasis this year on agentic AI, tokenisation and quantum technologies.
