Assam intensifies push to turn investment pledges into tangible projects amid progress review

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accelerated efforts to convert over ₹5 lakh crore worth of investment commitments into operational projects, with most proposals approaching execution stage, focusing on cement, power, and renewable energy sectors.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stepped up scrutiny of investment proposals linked to Advantage Assam 2.0, with the latest review suggesting that a sizeable share of the commitments announced at the state’s flagship investment push are moving towards execution. According to reports by The Economic Times and Asom Times, Sarma said more than 60% of the proposals were already in advanced stages, with some projects operational. The state has said it is tracking commitments worth more than ₹5 lakh crore made at the February 2025 summit.

At a meeting in Guwahati’s Lok Sewa Bhawan on September 9, Sarma reviewed work across cement, power and renewable energy, and heard from representatives of Ambuja Cements, Star Cement, Dalmia Cement, Adani Power, SJVN Green Energy, Hinduja Group, Greenko Energies, NEEPCO and NLC India Renewables, according to The News Mill and related reports. The discussions focused on delays, bottlenecks and project-specific problems that have slowed implementation.

The chief minister told departments to move quickly on fixes and keep regular contact with investors so that legitimate concerns can be resolved within set deadlines, according to The News Mill and India Today NE. He also told the Public Works Department to improve road links to project sites where needed, arguing that weak connectivity should not become a brake on industrial expansion.

The pressure to deliver is part of a wider effort to convert investment pledges into physical projects that create jobs and deepen Assam’s industrial base. Earlier reporting by The Economic Times said the state had also signed 69 investment agreements worth ₹1.67 lakh crore, expected to generate about one lakh direct and indirect jobs, while Sarma has repeatedly said the government is trying to turn summit announcements into ground-level activity.
