India’s space start-ups receive prime minister’s call for broader tech integration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has met with leaders of 20 Indian space start-ups, urging them to expand the use of space technology into everyday applications such as agriculture, environmental monitoring, and education, signalling a new chapter in India’s burgeoning private space industry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stepped up his engagement with India’s private space sector, meeting the leaders of 20 start-ups and urging them to push space technology beyond launches and satellites and into everyday use. According to reports from The Times of India and several Indian outlets, the discussion centred on how satellite data, imaging and launch capabilities could support agriculture, livestock management, dairy and environmental monitoring.

The meeting, held at Seva Teerth, brought together founders and chief executives from firms including Skyroot Aerospace, Agnikul Cosmos, Pixxel, Dhruva Space, GalaxEye, PierSight, Bellatrix Aerospace and Digantara. Modi told the entrepreneurs that the government wants India’s private space ecosystem to expand into a globally competitive industry, while also reinforcing its role in national development.

Reports said Modi also pressed for closer links between space companies and schools such as Atal Tinkering Labs, in order to encourage more young people to enter the field. That reflects a broader push to turn space from a niche engineering sector into a wider platform for innovation, talent-building and commercial growth.

The renewed attention comes as India’s space start-up scene has gathered pace since the government opened the sector more fully to private players. Companies are now working on rockets, satellites, space data and related technologies, and policymakers see them as part of a strategy to attract investment, build capability and strengthen India’s position in the global market. On National Space Day, Modi posted “Happy National Space Day!” on X and said he had been encouraged by the energy and ambition of young innovators in the sector.
