The requirement affects non-PMUY customers and, according to local reporting, also applies to Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, who receive targeted subsidies. The aim, distributors say, is to ensure that subsidised fuel reaches eligible households and to tighten checks on the system. Times of India reported that in West Bengal roughly 75% to 80% of domestic LPG customers have already completed the exercise.
For households that miss the deadline, the connection is not expected to be cancelled outright, but it may be marked inactive or temporarily suspended for domestic pricing purposes. That could leave customers facing much higher charges until their e-KYC is completed. In Delhi, a 14.2kg domestic cylinder is priced at about Rs. 942, compared with roughly Rs. 2,738 for a commercial cylinder, while Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai also show a wide gap between household and commercial rates, underscoring the financial impact of any interruption.
Customers can complete the verification through apps such as Indian Oil One or equivalent platforms used by Bharat Gas and HP Gas, or they can do it through their distributor or delivery person when a cylinder is dropped off. For an in-person visit, agencies generally ask for an Aadhaar copy, the gas passbook and a registered mobile number so biometric or facial e-KYC can be carried out at the local office during working hours.
The timing matters because August 15 falls on a Saturday and is a national holiday in India, so many agency offices may be shut or operating shorter hours this weekend. That does not mean all LPG services stop: delivery continues, and app-based e-KYC remains available. Business listings for several Indane and BPCL-linked agencies show that weekend hours vary by location, with some offices open on Saturdays and others closed on Sundays, so customers are being urged not to leave verification to a last-minute branch visit.
