Hinduja Group ramps up Rs 2,500 crore investment in Tamil Nadu’s green energy and electric mobility

The Hinduja Group commits Rs 2,500 crore to expand renewable energy projects and electric vehicle infrastructure in Tamil Nadu, signalling a major shift in its strategic focus on clean energy and sustainable transport in the state.

Hinduja Group has deepened its commitment to Tamil Nadu with a Rs 2,500 crore memorandum of understanding spanning renewable power, electric buses, vehicle manufacturing, finance and charging infrastructure. The agreement was signed by Amit Saharia, the group’s president of strategy, and Deepak Jacob of the state’s Guidance Industries department, with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay present alongside Ashok Hinduja and Dheeraj Hinduja, who heads Ashok Leyland.

Most of the new capital will flow into Hinduja Renewables Energy, which is planning more than 200 MW of solar, wind and battery storage projects. The company is also looking at land in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore, districts with established industrial links and strong potential for clean energy development.

The mobility side of the plan will be led by OHM Global Mobility, which intends to deploy electric buses for public transport and broaden its role in the state’s transport business. Ashok Hinduja said the group’s renewed investment reflected confidence in Tamil Nadu, citing the state’s industrial base and skilled workforce as key reasons the conglomerate continues to expand there.

The latest pledge builds on a series of earlier commitments. According to reports from pv magazine India and Business Standard, Ashok Leyland began work in March on a greenfield EV battery pack plant at Pillaipakkam near Chennai, involving an investment of Rs 400 crore to Rs 500 crore. That project followed a broader Rs 7,500 crore agreement signed by Hinduja Group UK in September 2025 covering battery manufacturing and EV infrastructure. Together, the investments suggest Tamil Nadu is becoming a central hub for the group’s push into clean energy and electric mobility.
