Tata AIA launches Sampoorna Care – Cancer to focus on income preservation during treatment

Tata AIA introduces Sampoorna Care – Cancer, a flexible insurance policy designed to address the financial impact of cancer diagnoses by providing income replacement alongside medical coverage, with multi-stage benefits and long-term premium stability.

Tata AIA Life Insurance has launched Sampoorna Care – Cancer, a policy designed to tackle a problem many cancer plans overlook: the loss of income that often follows a diagnosis. While hospital cover may absorb part of the treatment bill, families still have to meet day-to-day commitments such as rent, loan repayments, school fees and utilities during what can be a long period of recovery.

The product is built around flexibility. According to Tata AIA, customers can take benefits as a lump sum, as regular income over one to five years or as a mix of the two. That approach is meant to help policyholders match payouts to real-world expenses, using immediate cash for treatment and scheduled payments to support household finances over time.

The plan also distinguishes between minor-stage and major-stage cancer. For an early diagnosis, including carcinoma in situ, Tata AIA says the policy can pay up to 25% of the sum assured or ₹10 lakh. A minor-stage claim does not reduce the amount available if the illness later progresses to a major-stage diagnosis, where the benefit can rise to 100% of the sum assured.

Tata AIA says the policy comes with a 30-year premium guarantee, keeping payments fixed over the long term. It also includes a waiver-of-premium feature after a minor-stage claim, meaning future premiums may be waived while cover continues. The company says spouses can be covered under a joint policy, and policyholders can access discounted cancer screening through Tata AIA Health Buddy.

The launch reflects a broader shift in cancer insurance towards covering financial disruption, not just medical bills. Tata AIA’s own product pages and distributor material show a growing emphasis on income replacement, preventive screening and multi-stage benefits, with some related plans extending cover through health funds, tax-related features and broader critical illness protection. For salaried workers, self-employed professionals and households dependent on a single income, that added continuity may be as important as the treatment payout itself.
