PTT warns of rising fake messages as scam attempts intensify in official notifications

PTT cautions customers against increasingly sophisticated fake messages mimicking official communications, amid a global rise in SMS and email scams targeting personal and banking data.

PTT has warned customers about a surge in fake messages that appear to come from the postal operator or its electronic notification service, UETS, as scammers step up attempts to harvest personal and banking data. According to the notice, fraudsters are circulating bogus SMS messages and emails designed to push recipients on to counterfeit links and steal sensitive information.

The company said it never asks users for a username, password, verification code, bank details or payment information. It urged the public not to click on links in suspicious messages, not to open attachments and not to share personal data with third parties.

PTT also said electronic notifications should be checked only through official channels, including the UETS Portal, the UETS mobile app and the e-Government gateway. If a suspicious message arrives, customers should ignore any contact details or links contained in it and reach the organisation only through its verified channels.

The warning fits a wider pattern of impersonation scams aimed at postal, delivery and financial services. Permanent TSB has issued similar advice on so-called smishing, while the Philippine Postal Corporation has also cautioned against fake delivery notices. In the US, the Federal Trade Commission has said text-message scams remain a major source of consumer losses, with fake delivery alerts among the most common schemes reported in 2024.
