Molbio Diagnostics raises ₹281.5 crore from anchor investors ahead of IPO at top of price band

Goa-based Molbio Diagnostics, backed by Temasek and Motilal Oswal, secures ₹281.5 crore from anchor investors as it prepares to go public with a valuation of around ₹9,300 crore, ahead of its scheduled listing in August.

Molbio Diagnostics Ltd, the Goa-based point-of-care testing company backed by Temasek and Motilal Oswal Private Equity, has raised ₹281.5 crore from anchor investors ahead of its initial public offering, according to the company’s book-building update circulated on the BSE. The shares were placed at ₹807 each, the top of the price band.

The anchor round drew 33 investors and included heavyweight global and domestic institutions such as Goldman Sachs, BlackRock Global Funds, Mirae Asset, Nippon India Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Kotak Mutual Fund, Tata Mutual Fund, WhiteOak Capital, Bajaj Life Insurance and HDFC Life Insurance. Domestic mutual funds accounted for 23.54 lakh shares, or 67.51% of the anchor allocation, spread across 19 schemes from nine fund houses.

Molbio’s IPO will open to public investors on August 10 and close on August 12. The offer is priced at ₹768 to ₹807 a share and is expected to raise between ₹904 crore and ₹940 crore. The issue consists of a fresh sale of shares worth up to ₹200 crore and an offer for sale of as many as 91.66 lakh shares by existing shareholders.

The company plans to use ₹106 crore from the fresh proceeds for capital spending on an R&D facility, a Centre of Excellence and related office space. A further ₹72 crore is earmarked for plant and machinery at its Goa and Visakhapatnam units, with the balance reserved for general corporate purposes. At the top end of the price range, Molbio would command a post-issue valuation of about ₹9,300 crore, below the more than ₹12,000 crore valuation earlier indicated when it filed draft papers, according to Moneycontrol.

Founded in 2000, Molbio develops molecular tests for 30 diseases, including tuberculosis, COVID-19, HIV, HPV and hepatitis B and C. Its Truenat platform is a battery-powered polymerase chain reaction system designed for use in resource-constrained settings, delivering decentralised testing within about an hour. The company says the platform is patented in more than 100 countries and exported to over 85 markets, with more than 10,000 devices deployed globally. Molbio reported revenue from operations of ₹1,445 crore in fiscal 2026 and profit of ₹164 crore, while earlier company disclosures cited revenue of ₹1,020.4 crore in fiscal 2025, up 22%.

The issue comes after the Securities and Exchange Board of India approved Molbio’s IPO plans in December 2025. Kotak Mahindra Capital Company, IIFL Capital Services, Jefferies India and Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors are managing the sale, and the shares are scheduled to list on the BSE and NSE on August 17.
