Gold prices remain firm across major Indian cities as international tensions and economic instability keep investors seeking refuge in bullion, with Delhi leading the surge to Rs 15,255 per gram.
Gold prices held firm on August 9 as investors continued to seek shelter in bullion amid global economic uncertainty and geopolitical tension. The latest quoted rates put 24-carat gold above Rs 15,000 per gram in all six major cities listed, while 22-carat gold remained above Rs 13,900. Delhi again showed the highest prices, with 24-carat gold at Rs 15,255 per gram and 22-carat gold at Rs 13,985, according to the market table.
Silver was also broadly elevated, with prices ranging from Rs 2,45,000 per kilogram in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad to Rs 2,50,000 in Chennai. The rates are indicative and can shift once jewellers add GST, making charges, wastage and other local costs, meaning the final bill is often higher than the headline bullion quote.
The latest move follows a strong week for gold, with recent market reports saying prices jumped about 7%, the biggest weekly gain in eight months. Analysts linked the rally to softer crude oil, expectations around interest rates, geopolitical developments and steady central-bank buying. Business Standard reported that similar swings have repeatedly been driven by the US dollar and bond yields, underlining how quickly domestic prices can move when overseas markets turn.
For buyers, the key point is timing. Even small shifts in international bullion markets can quickly alter local rates, and city-level differences remain common because of taxes and market conditions. Earlier trading reports have also shown that silver and gold can fall and rise sharply within a single day, reinforcing the need to check live prices just before buying.
