The Delhi government’s Lakshmi Yojana garners over 5.14 lakh registrations within seven days, with the first installment targeted for Raksha Bandhan, signalling a swift push for women’s economic support.
Within 7 days of launch, Delhi’s Lakshmi Yojana has drawn more than 5.14 lakh registrations from women across the capital, according to figures released by the Delhi government. More than 2.18 lakh applications have already been finalised, a pace Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described as evidence of strong public trust in the scheme.
The official Delhi government website says the programme is designed to provide eligible women with ₹2,500 a month and to support both immediate spending needs and longer-term savings. Under one option, beneficiaries receive ₹1,000 in Central Bank Digital Currency for everyday expenses and ₹1,500 in recurring or fixed deposits. The other option places the full ₹2,500 into deposits to encourage saving and financial stability.
Officials are aiming to make the first payment available by Raksha Bandhan, according to the announcement. The government has also urged women who have not yet applied to use the scheme’s online portal, which it says was designed to make registration straightforward and accessible.
District-wise data show the strongest response in north-east Delhi, where 73,676 women have registered and 38,579 have completed final submission. North-west Delhi follows with 55,700 registrations and 34,545 final submissions, while west Delhi has recorded 44,358 registrations and 18,967 final submissions. New Delhi has seen the fewest registrations so far, at 5,573, with 1,801 applications finalised. The government says the spread of registrations reflects interest in a plan it presents as part of a wider push towards women’s economic empowerment and financial inclusion.
